Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church

Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, located in the Rivermont Historic District in Lynchburg, has experienced steady growth in ministry programs, resulting in the need for multi-functional education meeting space. Hughes Associates A&E researched various schemes for expansion which included consideration of alternate locations for buildings on their campus. Evaluation of these designs resulted in a solution fitting a new education wing between the existing main church building and an adjoining youth building. Our design incorporates a new canopy, reorganization of parking and circulation, and a new gathering foyer with multiple classroom spaces on two levels, an administrative suite, and children’s preschool. This addition improves access and wayfinding to the sanctuary.

Constructing an addition to the existing church building required review and approval by the local Historic Preservation Commission. The approved design complements the historic appearance of the original building.
