Progress Continues on Health Center in Haiti

Hughes Associates A&E has been helping the Sacred Heart Parish to build a new health center in a very underserved rural area near Lascahobas, Haiti.

Crews have completed the foundation for the first phase. Construction continues on the first floor walls and supports for the second story.

Project Details

Phase One includes a pharmacy and drug storage, laboratory, laundry room, public health classrooms, offices and living space for staff.  The next phase will incorporate a dispensary with exam rooms, minor surgery, treatment rooms, and a birthing clinic. Finally, Phase Three will provide 20 inpatient beds and on-call staff facilities.

The health center has to be self-sustaining in such a rural area.  One of the stair tower roofs will contain a large water cistern. The cistern will store rainwater and provide adequate pressure for toilets, sinks, and showers.  In addition, thermal and PV solar panels will be placed on the south face of the main roof.  As a result, the solar panels will provide staff and patients with necessary amenities such as hot water and electricity.
