Hughes Associates A&E provided the architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical design for two new 3 story apartment buildings with balconies at Sturbridge Square Apartments. We coordinated with two building plans with a local civil engineer which included a new 12 foot high retaining wall at the rear of the building that borders Route 460 West to provide adequate bearing capacity for the buildings. We worked closely with the client who owns several student apartment complexes throughout Virginia and North Carolina to determine the optimal 4 bedroom apartment layout and finishes for the specific student residential sector that the client sought to leverage.
This project added 96 bedrooms to the existing complex including required handicap accessible units. During construction, Hughes Associates A&E provided Construction Administration services including a Preconstruction meeting with the selected contractor, project scheduling, responses to the Town of Blacksburg’s comments, and bi-monthly site visits to address requests for information (RFI’s) from the contractor and review of contractors progress. We also reviewed Applications for payment from the contractor for the owner, as well as performing project inspections fro the client’s bank.
