Deck Addition
2002

South Roanoke Residence

To enhance a kitchen and dining room renovation, the owners wanted an outdoor space for entertaining, but were concerned about the lack of privacy on their corner city lot. Solid walls were out of the question because the deck’s elevation afforded great views of the mountains. The house’s solid mass and prominent location demanded a substantial visual presence. Our solution was to create a deck with a solid base of siding to match details on the house, topped with a semi-open colonnade that creates a perceived barrier between the private and public.
