Shenandoah Podiatry has relied on Hughes Associates A&E for multiple projects, beginning with their original clinic renovation in 2006 when we provided plans to convert a ranch-style house into a podiatry clinic. They quickly outgrew the space, so in 2014 the owner commissioned us to convert a spa into a new clinic located just a few miles from their first office. Mindful of both budget and aesthetics, we salvaged and repurposed the best parts of the building’s contemporary design to provide a state-of-the-art medical facility. Spaces were reassigned and reconfigured to provide treatment rooms, an X-ray room, front lobby, storage, and administrative areas. Investigations under stairs and behind casework yielded materials left over from the original construction that were used to patch areas where walls were removed. Shampoo stations were adapted into examination room cabinetry. In addition to the environmental benefits of recycling materials, these measures provided cost savings to the owner and assisted in maintaining the style of the building. Hughes Associates A&E worked with subcontractors to secure estimates on products and materials in order to assist the owner in making budget-based decisions.
