In this project, a renovation of the existing Kirby Field House, Hughes Associates A&E converted existing space into a fitness center for students and faculty. The facility was previously limited by poorly lit under-utilized corridors. Circulation routes prohibited the building’s mid-section from being secured separately from the gym and pool. The new plans reconfigured the building layout, allowing over 10,000 square feet of space to be reclaimed. Gym circulation was channeled through a new entrance and ticket lobby. A concrete floor was inserted mid-height in unused squash and racquetball courts providing space for a new aerobics studio. A covered entrance was added on the south side of the building.
