Hughes Associates A&E’s design transformed an existing 1980’s era dining facility into a space that evokes the atmosphere of an exclusive restaurant. The space seats 90 residents at tables with additional seating provided at the bar. One corner of the dining room is easily converted from an exercise zone into a party room. Renovation of the bare bones lobby included the addition of a fireplace, wood bookcases, and computer stations for the residents. A commercial kitchen equipped for preparation of light meals was also included in the design.

Originally built in the early 1970s, Friendship Retirement Community in northeast Roanoke is one of Virginia’s largest and most comprehensive retirement communities. Since 1999, Friendship has relied on Hughes Associates A&E for planning and design services including:
