11 South Jefferson Street – Mixed Use Mercantile / Apartments

The complete renovation of this circa-1925 building in the heart of downtown Roanoke, transformed it from a derelict storefront to an upscale apartment block with retail space at the ground floor level. Hughes Associates A&E worked with the owner, a local entrepreneur whose passion is modern art, to insert a contemporary space into the existing brick shell. The interior, with exposed rough brick walls and original hardwood floors, contrasts with the sleek metal finishes on the exterior. Each unit offers an open-concept plan and a private outdoor space – either a balcony or a rooftop deck. The first floor was designed to provide a “vanilla-box” for either a retail or restaurant tenant.
